BARNET 0 Maidstone 2

The Bees can have few complaints after a lack lustre performance against a team that started the day in the bottom four. Cheye Alexander created the home sides only chance of the first half forcing Stones keeper Grant Smith to beat away his 18th minute effort. The visitors went in front after 27 minutes after poor marking let in top scorer Blair Turgott. John still introduced Shaq Coulhirst and Ephron Mason-Clark at half time but Barnet failed to respond as Maidstone substitute Gold Omotayo put the game beyond their reach with 10 minutes remaining.

HRB Sport On Air

HRB Sport will be on air Saturday to bring you unrivalled coverage of our teams matches, including commentary from The Hive and score updates from every game. Regular news too of sport up and down the country including in depth analysis of football league action and the first weekend of the Autumn Internationals.
Barnet will be looking to bounce back from midweek defeat to front runners Salford when they entertain Maidstone United in our feature game. The Bees looked to be heading for an impressive win against the pre season favourites when Wes Fonguck scored his fourth goal in three matches before the break. However, Rory Gaffney ensured parity at the interval and shortly afterwards the tide turned when Tom Walker put away a rebound. Mark Shelton added a third to send the visitors top.
Boreham Wood had sub David Stephens to thank as his injury time goal rescued a point at Aldershot. Both goals game in added on time after Adam Macdonnell had given the Shots a first half lead. Wood remain 11th on 26 points with Barnet one place and one point behind.
After a trio of wins in the FA Trophy last Saturday our teams have been given further challenges to make progress in the second round qualifying next weekend. Hendon have received another home tie against Biggleswade Town, while Wingate & Finchley face a long trip to Tiverton Town and Potters Bar are on the road again against Horsham.
The Scholars have appointed Lee O’Leary and Scott Cousins as joint managers. Lee, for whom this is his first managerial role will continue as player having led the team in its successful promotion campaign last season. Scott has experience of coaching at Hendon where he played alongside Lee. Their first match in charge is the mouth watering encounter with local rivals Wingate & Finchley. The Blues too announced management changes this week with Nicky Shorey stepping down from his role as joint manager. Glen Little will continue the team, having led the team to victories in their last 2 matches.
Hendon have signed Kingstonian winger Shaun Lucien. He began his career at Brentford and has National South experience with Wealdstone and St Albans where he scored 22 goals.
Hadley’s good run was halted when they lost 1-0 at Biggleswade United in the League Champions Trophy.

Barnet v Maidstone…..The Preview

We’re back at The Hive today as the 🐝’s look to bounce back from tuesday’s defeat by Salford City which saw them blow an early lead to concede three 🙈. Afterwards John Still wasn’t chuffed accusing certain players of playing for themselves 😡. The visitors today are more concerned with the other end of the table Maidstone are 21st in the table and haven’t won for five games. The Stones though have proved far more effective away from their Gallagher Stadium having won three of their four games this season away from home. Goals have been the problem for the Kent side only scoring more than one in a game twice all season.

With Callum Reynolds and Dave Tarpey fit again and Zak Jukes and Shaq Coulthirst close to a return John Still faces an interesting selection problem as he looks to keep the 🐝’s within striking distance of the play offs.

The two teams last met in a league game 26 years ago Barnet winning 3-2 at Underhill in February 1992.

Maidstone fact: Maidstone is the only town with a dinosaur on its crest 🦖. Iggy the Iguanadon was discovered in a quarry in the town in 1834 and a cast of the famous herbivore can be found in the towns museum.

HRB will have live commentary from Pete Hill and Garry Lakin at the Hive on HRB Saturday Sport from 3pm
