FA Trophy First Round

BARNET 3 Bath City 2

The Bees looked to have booked their place in round two after a stunning opening 23 minutes which saw them race into a 3-0 lead. Wes Fonguck scored the first within the opening minute collecting Jack Taylor’s pass to thump his seventh goal of the season into the top right hand corner. Number two arrived ten minutes later Taylor’s inch perfect pass picking out Ephron Mason-Clark who’s low cross was turned home by Manny Duku. Dan Sparkes was the architect of number three bursting down the left before picking out Mason-Clark who buried his first goal of the season past the unprotected keeper. Bath pulled a goal back before half time when Michele Effete took advantage of the Bees inability to clear the ball. Adam Mann reduced the deficit to a single goal sweeping home Anthony Straker’s cross after 64 minutes to set up a tense final period which saw both teams miss chances.

Cup and league double on HRB Sport

With the busy Christmas program just around the corner, we have a dynamic mix of Cup and league exploits to report this weekend. HRB Sport will feature first round action from the FA Trophy with three of our teams competing, including commentary from The Hive and goal updates from Boreham Wood and Wingate & Finchley.  Saracens aim to keep their 100% record intact with a return match in the Champions Cup against Cardiff. News too from key league matches across the borough and beyond. All this together with the week’s talking points on our flagship Saturday Sport show.
Martin is in the presenter hotseat today and will pack in all the action between 2.30 and 5.
Potters Bar capitalised on their encouraging victory last weekend by securing another 3 points on the road in midweek. A Bradley Sach strike in the second half was enough and lifts the Scholars into the top half, only 3 points off the top 5.
Fellow Bostik locals Wingate & Finchley had no reason to celebrate, however as visitors Harlow Town took the points in a lacklustre match.  Their 2-0 victory closes the gap between the drop zone and the Blues to 3 points.
Hendon suffered similar home blues with promotion rivals Metropolitan Police triumphing 3-1. The Greens were in Christmas mood in gifting their visitors 3 goals with home fans at least opening the bubbly to toast 20 goal Ricardo German.  Despite defeat Hendon remain 5th and in the final play off berth.
