After successive Cup weekends taking the spotlight, HRB Sport features key league encounters this weekend. Commentary from Barnet on the road and news from all our local games as several teams battle against the threat of relegation while Hadley look to remain top of the pile.
Barnet are firing on all Cup cylinders this season. Following their giant killing win act at Sheffield United, the Bees repelled the threat of having the same treatment from lowly Dorchester to secure a 3rd Round tie at Carshalton Athletic. The match will be played on February 2nd, 5 days after the team hosts Brentford in the FA Cup. Darren Currie saw his young warriors match their Middlesex Senior Cup success of last term beating Hampton & Richmond 2-0 in the Middlesex Senior Cup quarter finals, Simeon Akinola and Josh Walker with the goals.
Borehamwood have brought in goalkeeper George Legg on loan from Reading until the end of the season. Although yet to feature in the Royals starting line up Legg is familiar with the National League after spells at Braintree and Aldershot this year, and the Hive last season.
Potters Bar have also reinforced their back line due to absence through suspension of first choice keeper Berkely Laurencin. Nik Tzanev hails from New Zealand where he has received international recognition, and arrives on a month’s loan from League One AFC Wimbledon.
The Scholars also welcome back midfielder/striker Ben Ward-Cochrane who featured in the team’s successful promotion campaign last year after a spell at Hertford Town.
Wingate & Finchley have parted company with coach Glen Little, who led the team to their best ever FA Trophy run. However a disappointing league season has caused chairman Arun Sharpe to make a difficult decision in order to protect the team’s place in the Premier Division. Former Director of Football Dave Norma returns on an interim basis.
Hendon’s long losing streak continued with a quarter final defeat in the Middlesex Senior Cup at the hands of Hayes & Yeading.
However, Edgware moved up to 8th with a 2-1 victory over Cockfosters thanks to Thomas Fisher and Stephen Benavides.
