HRB Sport on road with Bees at league leaders

HRB Sport has commentary from Barrow as Barnet seek to get back to winning ways at the National League leaders, plus scores and reports from all other local games

Potters Bar picked up an important league win on Tuesday, beating Merstham 2-1. Josh Hutchinson gave the Scholars the perfect start scoring in the 3rd minute. Bradley Sach doubled the advantage on the hour meaning Ellis Brown’s strike 7 minutes later was merely a consolation. The result lifts the team to 13th, one place behind today’s hosts Margate which is one of 4 games in the Isthmian Premier due to FA Trophy action.

Hendon’s encouraging start under new boss Lee Allinson continued with a resilient display against Hayes & Yeading United in the Southern League Cup. The teams’ third meeting in the last month saw a stirring comeback to level the tie after 90 minutes, and cool heads to win the ensuing penalty shootout 7-6. Luke Tingey and Corey Panter scored the second half goals that took the match into spot kicks. Dante Baptiste was the Greens hero saving the 7th effort from the hosts in Hendon’s longest penalty shoot out in history and catapulting the team into the last 16 for the first time.

Hive based teams lead weekend action on HRB Sport

No Cup heroics for Barnet or Potters Bar last weekend, but much needed wins for the new management teams at Wingate & Finchley and Hendon. And a thumping 8 goal victory for high flying Hadley which contained no less than 7 players on the scoresheet.

This weekend HRB is back to its regular format and gearing up for a double header, with commentary live from the Hive and regular score updates on Saturday followed by full coverage of Hive based Tottenham Ladies on Sunday and a roundup of the weekend action as Saracens begin their defence of the European Cup in Paris.

Despite their Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town, several Bees players are celebrating call ups during the current international programme. Jack Taylor will represent Republic of Ireland Under 21s in their Euro qualifiers against Armenia and Spain, goalkeeper Rihards Matrevics joins the Latvia Under 21s for the trip to Russia, Antonis Vasiliou is with the Cyprus Under 19s ahead of a tournament in Italy and Roy Syla is hoping to impress for the Albanian Under 20s in a friendly against Croatia.

No Barnet games will be rescheduled during this period.

Potters Bar overcame the disappointment of exiting the FA Trophy by narrowly overcoming Oxhey Jets in the Herts Senior Cup on Tuesday. The match finished goalless after 90 minutes with debutant Roman Michael-Percil hitting the winning penalty in the subsequent shootout.

Hendon’s resurgence continued with an impressive 1-0 success against Leyton Orient in the London Senior Cup, Connor Calcutt scoring the winner just after the half hour to leave new boss Lee Allinson delighted praising the whole team effort.

Wingate & Finchley were beaten 1-0 by Cray Wanderers in the Premier Division to leave the team precariously placed level on points with the bottom 3.

FA Cup live on HRB Sport as Barnet look to repeat historic run

This weekend the FA Cup takes pride of place in the sporting calendar, and with Barnet’s game again being moved to accommodate fellow broadcasters, HRB Sport has a slightly different schedule. There will be full coverage of Sunday’s FA Cup match with Martin kindly stepping into the presenter hotseat foregoing his regular midday Sunday roast.

This means that most unusually there will be no Saturday show – however Sunday’s programme will contain a roundup of the day’s results including Potters Bar’s FA Trophy visit to Cinderford.

Good luck to all our teams for Cup success and league points.

Barnet v Chorley leads HRB Sport schedule

A mixed bag of results in the FA Trophy last weekend saw just one of our teams progress to the next round. Hendon had already gone out on Saturday but Wingate & Finchley harboured hopes of progressing after Hayes & Yeading United fought back to earn a replay. The Blues took the lead again in the rematch with record goalscorer Ahmet Rifat finding the net on 7 minutes. The resilience which the West Londoners displayed in the first match showed again with an equaliser early in the second period, and with another 1-1 draw on the cards, Liam McDevitt sent Hayes through in the very final minute.

So only erstwhile Cup heroes Potters Bar remain from our triumvirate of competitors in the First Round Qualifying, and the Scholars were dealt a tough challenge in the next round with a long trip west to either Cinderford Town or Merthyr Tydfil.

Barnet found it a doubly hard week in the north. After defeat to Hartlepool United at the weekend  Darren Currie’s men suffered another reverse at Harrogate Town on Tuesday. All the goals came in the first half with David Tutonda scoring for the Bees after the hosts went 2-0 up in 19 minutes.

Boreham Wood were held to a goalless draw by lowly Aldershot, meaning both National League teams are currently in the bottom half with 25 points.

Potters Bar achieved a creditable draw with top 5 Worthing, George Craddock getting the Scholars goal after the Sussex side had gone ahead early.

Edgware lost on penalties to Crawley Green in the League Challenge Trophy

Wingate & Finchley have signed a striker to boost their efforts to escape the bottom group. Olusaweun Akinsanya joins from Ware with strong credentials, being Division One’s leading scorer.

Hendon’s visit to Taunton Town has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
