BARNET 2 Solihull Moors 0

A brace from Wes Fonguck capped an excellent performance by The Bees in their first ever meeting with Solihull Moors. John Still made three changes recalling both Dan Sweeney and Josh Walker while giving a debut to new loan signing Manny Duku. After a tight beginning it was Walker who had the first chance of the game Moors keeper Ryan Boot doing well to block his 15th minute effort. At the other end Mark Cousins denied Adi Yussuf turning his goal bound effort over for a corner. Barnet dominated the second period with Craig Robson and Zak Jules both in outstanding form. The home side took the lead when Walkers sharp turn in the area set up Fonguck for a finish from six yards. The second goal arrived in injury time Solihull gifting a quick free kick in their own half to substitute Jack Barham who set up the unmarked Fonguck to complete the job.

HRB Sport Coming Up …..

HRB Sport is back on air this weekend to bring you full coverage of our local fixtures and the wider sporting action.
Barnet face an important match at The Hive after 4 games without a win. Manny Duku has joined the club on loan from Cheltenham Town until the end of the year. 11 performances for the Robins this season followed a record breaking 39 goals for Hayes and Yeading last year. The Dutch striker is available for today’s visit of Solihull Moors.
Boreham Wood’s on loan goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe has retained his place in the England Under 20s squad to face Italy and the Czech Republic.
Hendon produced a disappointing display in the FA Cup but retain their place in the competition following a 1-1 draw with Lancing. Shaquile Hippolyte-Patrick gave the Greens hope of victory in the 24th minute at Silver Jubilee Park but Jack Langford’s equaliser with 13 left means the teams replay at Culver Park on Sunday.
After failing to register a win in September, Potters Bar started the new month with a welcome three points at Brightlingsea Regent. Dernell Wynter scored the only goal on the stroke of half time which lifts the Scholars into 9th, two points off the top 6.
Wingate & Finchley are searching for a new manager after parting company with Keith Rowland during the week. After two record high league finishes in the previous two seasons the Northern Irishman felt he had taken the club as far as he could. The 2016-17 season saw the Blues finish in 5th on 75 points however this campaign been a struggle, and Rowland’s final match was a 3-2 defeat at Bishops Stortford. Marc Weatherstone and Chace O’Neill were the goalscorers leaving the team just one point above the bottom three.
Both our Spartan sides achieved creditable away draws in midweek. Sam Lyon was the goal hero as Hadley secured a 1-1 result at top 5 Colney Heath while Edgware shared the spoils in a goalless encounter at 4th placed Oxhey Jets.

Barnet v Solihull Moors……the Preview

Another piece of history will unfold at The Hive as Barnet take on Solihull Moors for the first time. Only formed in 2007 by the merger of Solihull Borough and Moor Green The Moors have gone from strength to strength and are now enjoying their second season in the National League. Currently in 5th place in the table they have won their last four and haven’t conceded a goal in 396 minutes. That’s a fitting record as the midland club are now under the guidance of former England keeper Tim Flowers.

Last Saturday’s defeat at Wrexham took the Bees winless streak to four games and left John Still once again cursing the length of a treatment queue which is threatening to block the car park. There’s no doubt this season the World Class medical facilities at the Hive have been stretched to the limit. Club skipper Callum Reynolds is closest to a return but Still is likely to be cautious about throwing him in after Andre Boucard lasted just five minutes of his comeback in the last home game against Havant & Waterlooville.

Solihull was voted as the best place to live in the UK in a recent poll by the web site Switch.com. It was also the birthplace of crime writer Mark Billingham, actresses Stephanie Cole and Felicity Kendall and legendary Slade guitarist Dave Hill. So while the play offs look ‘Far Far Away’ at the moment John Still will be hoping his team can ‘Get Down and Get With It’ from the off as they look to break their winless run.

As usual our commentary team of Pete Hill and Garry Lakin will be describing all the action on HRB Saturday Sport from 3pm.

HRB Sport 29 September

Hello All
HRB Sport is back on air shortly to cover this weekend’s local fixtures and the wider sporting action.
Barnet suffered late frustration at The Hive as they conceded an equaliser to Havant in the second minute of injury time. Shaq Coulthirst but the Bees ahead from the penalty spot on 13 minutes after Dan Sweeney was fouled. Andreas Robinson’s 25 yard strike levelled the match with 20 to go but it appeared Coulthirst had secured all 3 points when he carved a well taken second on 81 minutes. Not to be outdone, Robinson completed his brace to rescue a point for the visitors with a curling free kick.
Boreham Wood went down 1-0 at Eastleigh with man of the match Mark Yeates scoring the only goal on 80 minutes.
David Laird scored a hat-trick as Hadley comfortably won their League Challenge Trophy first round tie at Broxbourne Borough.
Meanwhile, Edgware picked up a valuable victory in the Premier League through Ivan Machado’s goal against London Colney.

Potters Bar v Bognor Regis the Preview…..

Our featured match this Saturday takes us to The Pakex where Potters Bar take on unbeaten Bognor Regis Town. After a bright start to their first season in the Bostik Premier the Scholars have found the going a little tougher of late. The 1-1 draw with Worthing last time out took their winless run to five games. Still comfortably placed in 11th place James Duncan’s team face another stiff test with the arrival of a Bognor side that have won all three home games and drawn all four in the road.

Last seasons free scoring form has failed to materialise so far the Scholars managing to hit the back of the net only three times in their last five fixtures. In contrast the Rocks have scored in all 11 of their league and cup matches including an 8-0 League Cup thumping of Whitehawk. In fourth place they’ll be looking to keep up the pressure on the divisions early front runners.

They’ll be live reports from The Pakex on our Saturday Sport show from 3pm.

Barnet 2 Havant & Waterlooville 2

A frustrating evening at The Hive as the visitors twice fought back from behind to earn a point. The Bees took the lead after 12 minutes when Shaq Coulthirst scored from the spot after Dan Sweeney had been bundled over in the area. The Hawks enjoyed plenty of possession and equalised after 71 minutes through substitute Andreas Robinson. The goal came after John Still’s side were forced to reorganise when Andre Boucard’s much anticipated league debut lasted just five minutes after his introduction as a second half substitute. Bees were back in front thanks to an excellent strike from Coulthirst eight minutes from time but Havant & Waterlooville were not to be denied Robinson thumping home an injury time free kick.
