With Hadley and Hendon performing admirably in their FA Cup ties last weekend but ultimately bowing out of the competition, Potters Bar were left as the only winning member of the triumvirate. The Scholars clinched a dramatic late winner at Ware after Ben Ward-Cochrane was fouled in the box in the final minute and Josh Hutchinson despatched the resulting penalty.
That wasn’t the end of the drama as the 4th Qualifying Round draw made by the legendary John Motson with Danny Murphy threw up a dream tie against Barnet at the Pakex next Saturday. Motty then pulled the strings with the BBC selecting the match as their live screening game kicking off at 12.30.
Boreham Wood were given a long trip to fellow National League side Torquay United.
The Bees topsy-turvy season continued midweek with a home defeat by front runners Bromley.
Josh Walker scored for the 3rd match in a row to give Barnet the lead on 7 minutes after a Cheye Alexandre cutback. Chris Bush nodded in an equaliser from close range before the break with the visitors clinching victory from a Joe Kizzi header in the 57th minute.
The result drops Darren Currie’s team outside the top 7 but they remain level on points with Solihull Moors in a packed group behind the top 3.
Boreham Wood also lost, at in form Barrow who secured their 7th win on the trot. The hosts were already 2-0 up inside 18 minutes when Tyrone Marsh notched his 8th goal of the season from an Adam McDonnell corner. Scott Quigley put the game beyond doubt in the 81st minute to leave Wood in 14th place.
Edgware lost 1-0 at Broadfields United
With the international break, today is Non League Day which gives clubs an opportunity to display the quality of football on offer below the top flights and boost attendance. As usual there are a variety of attractive offers around the borough. Barnet members can bring a friend for free to watch another key tussle against 5th placed Woking.
Hendon will be paying tribute to Luca Roberts who sadly passed away in the summer. The Greens are offering concessionary entry to any season ticket holder in the 92 league clubs.
The Greens have added two defenders to their squad ahead of the visit of Salisbury, Ed Cook joins on dual registration from Hampton and Richmond Borough while Toby Byron makes the move from Sutton United.
Spencer Knight oversees his first match as Wingate & Finchley boss today. He has brought in Lee Protheroe as 1st team coach after spending the last 10 years in academy football with Watford, Orient and Crystal Palace.
After an impressive FA Cup run, Hadley make their bow in the FA Vase with a home tie against Milton Keynes Robins from Spartan South Midlands Division One.
